Bark is the outer covering of the stem, branches and roots of the tree. The
bark is an aggregation of organs and tissues that includes phloem and
secondarily thickened tissues from the secondary plant body, as well as
epidermis, cortex and phloem derived from the primary plant body
Bauhinia Variegata
It can be used in cough conditions, asthma, abdominal
distention also acts as a gargle for sore throats, prevent from skin
diseases, or internally as a remedy for diarrhoea. It is helpful in managing
skin discoloration, veiling, baldness, conditions involving bilious. Bark is
alterative, anthelmintic, astringent and tonic. Paste of the bark is useful
in the treatment of cuts and wounds, skin diseases, scrofula and ulcer. The
dried buds are used in the treatment of piles, dysentery, diarrhoea and
worms.
Cissampelos Pareira
Velvet leaf or Abuta is antibacterial,
anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, antioxidant, antispasmodic, diuretic,
hypotensive, muscle relaxant, uterine relaxant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac,
analgesic, antihemorrhagic, cardiotonic, diaphoretic, expectorant,
febrifuge, hepatoprotective stimulant and tonic.
Morus Alba
Mulberry fruit is used to treat weakness, dizziness,
tinnitus, fatigue, anemia, and incontinence. The leaves are used to promote
sweating, and the branches and bark for lowering blood pressure. It is also
said that Mulberry can inhibit the premature graying of hair, and when used
topically can promote hair growth.Mulberry can help treat chronic diseases
of the digestive tract, improve digestion, stimulate the appetite, promote
gastric juice secretion and eliminate constipation. It has also been used in
treating chronic gastritis and hepatitis. It is helpfull in cough,
dyspepsia, facial dropsy, oedema, injury and oligura. The leaves are
antibacterial, astringent, diaphoretic, hypoglycemic, odontalgic and
ophthalmic. Stems are used in the treatment of rheumatic pains and spasms,
especially of the upper half of the body.
Exudates are the substances that oozes out of the pores of the injured
plant tissue. These exudates are either silica or polysaccharides or
terpenes or any other chemical, which are commercially useful. Some of the
plants having medicinal value are as follows:
Bambusa Arundinacea
Common Name: Bamboo
Uses: The exudates of the bamboo is extracted from internodes of the
stems. It is astringent, acrid, sweet, cooling, expectorant, constipating,
cardiotonic, haemostatic, aphrodisiac and diuretic.
Bambusa Vulgaris
Common Name: Bamboo
Uses: The exudates or the resins of the bamboo is obtained from
internodes of the stems of various species of Bamboo. It is astringent,
acrid, sweet, cooling, expectorant, constipating, cardiotonic, haemostatic,
aphrodisiac and diuretic.
Flowers are the reproductive part of most the plants. It consists of
carpels, petals, sepals and stamens. Flowers have either both male-female
reproductive parts (Perfect flowers) or only one of them (Imperfect
flowers). It is of various shape, size and colors.
Achillea Millefolium :
Common Name : Common Yarrow, Bloodwort,
Sneezewort, Solider’s Friend.
Uses : It is anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, aromatic,
carminative, cholagogue, diuretic, digestive, emmenagogue, stimulant,
homeostatic, vasodilator and tonic.
Bombax Ceiba :
Common Name : Red Silk Cotton Tree, Cotton
Tree, Indian Bombax, Kapok .
Uses : The roots are sweet, cooling, stimulant, restorative,
astringent, alternative, aphrodisiac, demulcent, emetic and tonic. It is
used in the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, menorrhagia, styptic and for
wounds. The gum is cooling, astringent, stimulant, aphrodisiac, tonic and
demulcent in nature. It is useful in dysentery, hemoptysis, pulmonary
tuberculosis, influenza, burning sensation, menorrhagia and enteritis.
